What is Nexium (Nexium 24mg)?

Nexium (generic name: esomeprazole) is an antiretroviral treatment (ART) used to treat HIV/AIDS and cancer in immunocompromised patients with certain cancers. It is available as a generic and may also be used to treat other conditions.

Nexium is also used to prevent organ transplants (other than a leg transplant) and for abdominal surgery in patients with a history of cancer who are not receiving treatment. This medication should not be used in patients with a strong family history of cancer.

Nexium is a prescription (P) drug and should be used under medical supervision.

Usual adult dose for treating HIV/AIDS and cancer in immunocompromised patients with certain cancers

For the treatment of HIV/AIDS and cancer in immunocompromised patients with certain cancers, the usual adult dose is one 250mg tablet twice daily. It should be taken as needed, with or without food. You should take one to four tablets twice daily. The duration of treatment can be up to 10 weeks.

To prevent organ transplant, you should take one to four tablets twice daily. The dose may be adjusted by your doctor, depending on your age, body weight and response to therapy.

Nexium can be taken with or without food. However, taking it with food may reduce stomach upset. If you take it with food, consult your doctor.
